Dear Kong Academy Family,
For the third year in a row, our community enabled us to support YouthCare who works with homeless youth in Seattle. In 2019, we gave $2,500 to help end homelessness in our city. Thank you all so much! YouthCare offered to give us a tour of the Orion Center, which serves as a safe and welcoming place for young people.
The tour is open to everyone! We will be meeting at the center on December 2 at 4pm. Please contact Nina at email@example.com if you want to join us.
Join the Kong Academy YouthCare tour. It’ll give you a good idea what the money you’ve been donating over the last couple of years has been used for.
Kong Academy Corporate Recess
We finished our first Corporate Recess pilot at a big IT company on the Eastside. It was a huge success! Want us to bring our program to your company too? No problem, we are still offering FREE pilot sessions.
Like for all of our classes, we bring our equipment to make the environment more approachable. Whether you haven’t moved in a few decades or just finished your 10th marathon, we’ll find something fun and challenging for everyone!
Please let Elke at firstname.lastname@example.org know if you want to share the fun with some of your colleagues.
Parkour Pilot at Seattle Public Schools
Over the last three years, Kong Academy has set up a successful after-school program with around 25-30 programs every season. However, considering the fact that there are probably around 100 public and private elementary schools in Seattle, we only reach a very small part of the student population, and we want to chance that! We set up a pilot Parkour program for the Seattle Public School District to bring Kong Academy to every public elementary school in Seattle.
December 8 is the first day of our pilot. We will be teaching Social Emotional and Executive Functioning skills through Parkour in four public elementary schools this year. The program will be funded with the donations we received for our community classes.
In 2020/21, the plan is to include 15 more schools. Despite your generosity at our community classes, we will need additional funding for next year. Right now, we are trying to figure out the best way to bring in additional funds to continue our pilot until every elementary student in Seattle has access to our SEL through Parkour program. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact Elke at email@example.com.
New: LARPing on Saturdays
Join King Ian and his Knights of Gas Works Park!
Last Saturday, King Ian introduced a group of kids between the ages of 10 and 14 and a couple of adults to the secrets of sword swinging. The theme of the first session was team work. In our games and exercises we focused on communicating quickly and effectively with other team members. We played capture the flag in the dark and finished our first session with a grand melee.
Want to join King Ian and learn how to become a knight of his court? We have 4 more sessions in 2019: November 23, 30 and December 7 and 14. Like all our community classes, the LARPing program is donation-based with a suggested donation of $10-20 per session. 1/3 of all proceeds go back into the community as donations to YouthCare, to provide subsidized parkour programs to Title I schools and to fund our Parkour in PE pilot program at Seattle Public Schools. Join in the fun, learn how to swing a sword and support the community!
