September Newsletter 2019

Round of applause … and a Big Welcome to Bryan Riggins!!! He joined the Kong Academy Team of Awesomeness beginning of September as our new Head Coach and we couldn’t be any more thrilled to have him on board!! In case you don’t know Bryan, here’s a little bit about him:

Bryan started training Parkour in 2008. He taught himself the philosophy and discipline through Parkour Generation/Yamakasi YouTube videos and Ryan Ford’s Demon Drills series. Since then he has become a certified level 1 and 2 coach through Parkour Visions. Furthermore he has a background in strength and conditioning for Parkour and sports psychology in competitive settings. His training style focuses on powerful high line movements incorporating technical footwork and a love for fear and height challenges.

Parkour Northwest Gathering 2019

For the first time every, six Parkour organizations came together to organize a 4-day event in Seattle. It was a huge success!

We started off with cliff jumping and boulder hopping at Whatcom Falls on Thursday led by Rafe Kelly. Friday we all met for an open jam at the Epstein Opportunity Center followed by a Meet & Greet at MoveFree in Redmond. Saturday, we had several workshops throughout the day at Freeway Park and ended with a challenge night at Dynasty Fitness. The event closed on Sunday with more workshops in the morning, the epic Kong Academy Angels of Retaliation game in the afternoon and fire, food and jumping on a big bar set (courtesy of Parkour Visions) at Golden Gardens in the evening. We had around 150 people join us and can’t wait to see you all next year!

Corporate Recess

Kong Academy has started a new service: Corporate Recess! A lunchtime play-based movement class for adults that builds strength, mobility and coordination. Fun is not reserved for kids!
We all know how important it is for our health and general well-being to move regularly, but we also know how difficult it can be to fit into your day. Drop the kids off at school in the morning, go to work, pick the kids back up and get groceries on the way home. Now go to the gym? No, because we have to get some family time in, dinner, and get the kids ready for bed. Phew! Maybe go to the gym now, or maybe finally get some rest, watch Netflix with a well-deserved glass of wine and head to the gym tomorrow. We’ve all been there. How about getting your movement in at lunch-time! No torturous trip to the gym, we come to where you are!

New Low Impact Class for Adults

We are super excited to let you know that Eric Jusino will be starting a new Low Impact Class for adults. Here are the details:

When: Monday (starting September 23), 6pm to 7:30pm.
Where: Gas Works Park. Meeting point is by the playground.
How much: Like all our community drop-in classes this one is also donation based. Suggested donation between $10 and $20. Pay what you wish! Don’t let money stop you from coming!
Registration: There will be a registration link on our website (also check out our new calendar for our Saturday and Sunday classes).
